Hanna's Memories

June 14, 2019

Of the many funny, serious, and frustrating memories I have about C&C, these are a few of my favorites.

On my first day of school ever at C&C in the VIIIs, my grandmother told me to wear this giant, fluffy, blue dress. When I got to school, everyone was in very casual clothing. Thankfully everyone was nice and liked my dress, especially Zoe McFarland. We were told to sit on this rug while our teacher, Jackie, taught us. Zoe wanted to sit behind me. Halfway through the class, I felt some hands on my dress. I turned around and found Zoe braiding my dress. I did not stop her because I saw this as a sign of friendship. Since then we have been good friends.

Also in the VIIIs, Gitana and I started to become friends. She sat across from me so we could talk. I was wearing a giant blue bedazzled dress. At the end of lunch we had to point at the exit we were going to leave in. We all pointed, but while we were pointing, Gitana accidentally knocked over an entire pitcher of water. My fluffy dress got soaked. I forgave her and since then we have been really close friends.

Moving onto the IXs, when we had the Country Trip, we were allowed to go canoeing. We put on our life jackets, partnered up, and got in our boats. Gitana and I had never been in a canoe so we were really bad at it. We ended up getting stuck in the back while everyone else played “Steal the Noodle.” Gitana and I never got to play because we got stuck three three times on the opposite side of the game location.

Also during the Country Trip, everyday we had dessert after dinner. One day they had Jello and since I am Muslim, and gelatin is pork, that is against my family’s religion. So they had some last-minute dessert for me: a whole chocolate cake. While everyone ate their small Jello cups, I got to eat a cake.

In the Xs, one of my biggest highlights were the stories that Gee Roldan wrote with me and Daisy R. The stories were about how in the IXs, we were traveling salesmen and sold magnets to Gee at her office. Since then, Gee wrote the two of us stories about that except they were set in a different world where teachers were villains.

A favorite memory from the XIIs was when we began to work on our Parthenon. I was in charge of the columns, the 64 medium-sided ones and 20 small-sized ones. (Sarah, do not come for me.) Gitana and I made all of them to the same diameter and length while William and Declan hot-glued them. We skipped Library and it ended up being fun. Also one time during Electives, we went out to Washington Square Park to take photographs. It was towards the beginning of the school year so we asked Tyrone to get ice cream. Only two of the four people had money. So two of them got Popsicles and shared them with the other two. It was so weird but really funny.

During the XIIIs year, when we traveled to Chicago, we went to the Willis Tower. I have a big fear of heights, but I still wanted to go up. I did not realize how high up we were so when I got up there, I got really sick and threw up. The view was amazing! There were so many good memories throughout my years at City and Country!
