Christian Ramos, A New Face At C&C
City and Country School has a new addition to its maintenance crew: Chris Ramos. He is an eager new staff member and is happy to be on the crew. Due to his past experience with maintenance working at Eleanor Roosevelt junior high school, he feels comfortable working at C&C.
Chris was hired to replace Tony Hilerio, Sr., a much loved maintenance person who had to leave C&C when he suffered a stroke. “Tony, Sr., had been on the maintenance staff for twenty years before leaving in the fall,” said Ann Roberts, Xllls co-teacher. The doctor’s orders are keeping Tony away from school, so this is how Chris got his new job.
Chris first heard of the job opportunity from his uncle, Louis Colon, who heard of the job opening from Walt Shepard who sent an email to the Cathedral School.
He thinks of himself as a family person because he has a close family. Chris was born in Manhattan and moved to the Bronx when he was twelve years old. Ever since he was a young, his parents sent him to his grandma’s house in Harlem while they were working. “So I basically always lived in the Bronx, but I was raised in Harlem,” said Chris.
Chris enjoyed his first day and shared that, “It’s cool getting to know everybody. I’m still a little nervous, but I will get over it.”
When we asked what Chris thought of C&C, he replied, “It is crazy how small
it is, but I think that is why everybody gets along well and everybody has to interact to know each other.” He already thinks that our small community did a great job welcoming him and he is definitely feeling more comfortable.
Not only is Chris a maintenance staff member, but he is an artist. He thinks of himself as a creative person who likes music and drawing. “I have not drawn in a while and I kind of miss it,” shared Chris. He enjoys drawing characters from movies. “I am not really a draw off the head. I have to look at something and I will be able to draw it,” he explained.
Chris loves sports. He especially enjoys basketball, football, and baseball. “I am a Mets fan, a Knicks fan, and a Jets fan,” he said.
C&C has a great new addition to its maintenance staff. Let’s hope that Chris enjoys working at C&C and has a fun time. All members of the community should be welcoming as we always are. Please be sure to say ‘hi’ if you see him.
