Editorial: Trump’s Disgusting Behavior Towards Women

Our 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump, has a history of making rude comments about women's appearances. One of these comments was said recently, when Trump referred to Stephanie Clifford as “horseface” on Twitter. Ms. Clifford, professionally known as Stormy Daniels, is a pornographic film actress. Her lawyer responded to Donald Trump’s tweet by calling him a “disgusting misogynist.” Misogyny is the hatred of, or prejudice against, females. According to The New York Times, Republican candidates are having a hard time winning over female voters due to Trump’s negative language towards women.

When our president mocks women, he often chooses to make fun of their faces. For example, in a 1992 issue of New York magazine, the president said that Katarina Witt, a German Olympic figure skater, would only be considered attractive “if you like a woman with a bad complexion who is built like a linebacker.”

Donald Trump does not only make insulting comments about women’s faces, he teases their bodies and overall being. In March of 2012, Trump told singer and actress Cherilyn Sarkisian (also know as Cher), that she should “stop with the bad plastic surgery and nasty statements.”

According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump recently questioned Senator Elizabeth Warren’s claims about having a Native American background and mocked her by calling her “Pocahontas” and making other racist comments. He promised that if DNA test results showed that she had Native American heritage, he would give $1 million to a charity of her choice. The DNA test results suggested that she had Native American family 6-10 generations ago.

“Remember saying on 7/5 that you’d give $1M to a charity of my choice if my DNA showed Native American ancestry?” Elizabeth Warren tweeted. However, Trump has not fulfilled his promise. Could this be because she is a woman? Or is he just a dishonest person?

Our president needs a lesson on how to treat people with kindness and respect. It is not okay for him to be saying such unseemly statements towards women. As our president, he should be mindful about what he is posting on social media platforms. Instead, it is as if he does not care.

“It can divide our country if the opposing parties go on strike against his statements,” says Bryan Lau, XIIIs.

Since our president is someone in a very high position of authority, many people in our society look up to him, ignoring his grotesque decorum. His actions encourage Americans, especially teenagers, to act similarly. No one should ever follow the actions of Trump. Because Trump holds a powerful position, his words may negatively impact women and lower their self-esteem.

“A good president should be accepting of all because they represent our entire country, but when disgusting comments are made it is difficult to call them a ‘good’ president,” said Lilly Meyer, XIIIs.

We should not tolerate this. He is a 72-year old man, who should be setting a good example for our country, yet he behaves immaturely by making unnecessary, rude comments especially towards women. With a sexist and unjust president, our world will never achieve full equality. How is Trump going to “make America great again” if he is treating women this way?
