The VIIIs Open Postagram, the School’s New Post Office

On Wednesday, October 24th, the VIIIs opened up their post office, Postagram. The grand opening was much anticipated by all of the VIIIs, and they started operation of the post office on Thursday, October 25th, as the post office is usually closed on Wednesdays. The day before the grand opening, Julian Squires said “We’re going to do a music performance in the Music Room, with jingles and songs.”

After the music performance, the parents came downstairs to the VIIIs room and celebrated the opening of the post office. Leading up to the opening, the VIIIs were spending a lot of time preparing for the big event. “Everything is about getting the post office together,” said Kalina Janevski. They made paper chains for the opening and designed their stamps and post cards. The VIIIs worked on practicing for the post office with different people playing the role of customer, cashier, greeter, giver and receipt person. In Math, the VIIIs have even been practicing working with change. “Once you learn, it’s pretty easy,” said Ceci Moran.

For the last month, the VIIIs have also been writing to their pen pals, which the VIIIs are enjoying. “I really want to meet them,” said Yasha Kegeles. “One of my pen pals is named Natalie and the other is Jordan. They are from Kansas,” said Harper Harris.

Outside of post office work, the VIIIs are studying forests in the classroom and in science. “We’re really just studying nature,” said Yasha Kegeles. They went on an exciting trip to Inwood on Friday, October 19. They’re studying types of forests, such as “temperate decision forests, which is the type of forest in New York where the leaves fall off,” explained Harper Harris.

The VIIIs are all studying their own animals and making a diarama. Harper and Yasha have the cardinal and the squirrel, respectively.
