Mona de Victoria was born and raised in New York City. She lived with her mom, dad and younger brother in the East Village. Mona still lives in her childhood home to this day with her wife Maria, her 18-month-old son Tadeo, and her two cats Piper and Loki.
Mona went to Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School just a few blocks away from City and Country. In college, Mona majored in Psychology, with a particular interest in child psychology. Mona had envisioned herself working with children for a long time whether in a classroom or in her pursuit of psychology.
One of the things that really interested Mona about teaching was progressive education. “I was homeschooled and I had a negative feeling about traditional education where a teacher stood in front of the room and gave lectures.”
Before City and Country Mona taught at multiple schools such as Bank Street as a Pre-K math consultant and Bright Horizon as a toddler teacher.
Part of what drew Mona to City and Country was “When [she] first became a teacher, [she] thought Caroline Pratt was a celebrity.” When she came for a tour of City and Country, she was impressed by the amount of independence students get.
In Mona has already developed a strong bond with the new Vs. “It feels like we have been together for a long time but we have only been together for five days,” she said after the first two weeks of school. Overall Mona is a great addition not only to the faculty but to the Vs as well.
